Free (legal) copies of Visual basic 2008,C# 2008, C++ 2008, SQL Server 2005 (No, I'm not kidding!)

I found some useful software from Microsoft that is actually free. You can download “lite” versions of VB 2008, C# 2008, C++ 2008, SQL Server 2005, as well as something called Visual Web Developer 2008.

Download it from here. They also offer a DVD image you can download and burn.

Set a Guinness World Record Enjoy a Better Web

That's the slogan for the Firefox 3 team's attempt to make a new world record for the most number of downloads a software achieves in a single 24-hour period. The date has not yet been fixed, is expected to be within a month's time.

They've already received close to a million pledges. If you'd like to join the effort, just head over to the Firefox Download Day page and sign up. You'll be sent a mail reminding you to download Firefox 3 on the big day.

Cool software of the day

For those who like to frequently switch their desktop wallpaper, John's Background Switcher (JBS - Freeware 1.25MB) is a must have utility. You can have your desktop wallpaper change as often (and frequently) as you want.

From the developer's website:

John’s Background Switcher (or JBS for short) periodically changes the background image on your computer (like every hour or every day) to something interesting. You can specify which pictures to choose from:
  • Individual pictures on your computer
  • Folders containing pictures on your computer such as ‘My Pictures’
  • Flickr photo sharing - selecting pictures by person, tags, sets or just plain random. You never know what you’re going to get next!
  • Phanfare web albums - keep up to date with your friends and family
  • smugmug photo galleries - yours, your friends, anybody’s!
  • Picasa Web Albums - choose from specific albums or any search text
  • Yahoo! image search - the internet is your oyster!

Download it and give it a shot.

Greasemonkey for Firefox 3 RC1

Firefox users who've upgraded to the latest version (Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1) will find that their old version the Greasemonkey Extension no longer works. The older version of Greasemonkey was compatible only up to Firefox 3 beta.

The solution is to download the beta version of the latest version of Greasemonkey (version 0.8) available here. This works fine with the RC1 version of Firefox.

In other extension news, the Better GMail2 has been updated and is available for download.
